A bewildered Ashley Montague confides in me across the café’s table, “I don’t know how I feel about art right now”. While this may sound like the sentiment of a Van Gogh or Carrington faced with the topics of poverty, public disregard or a broken heart, the true source of Ashley’s fatigued comment happens to be one of the best scenarios an artist could struggle wit People from SoCal to Canada are so intrigued by this 33 year old PDX transplant that they want to pay for a piece of his work, all at the same time. It is that fine line between contract work and creative inhibition, Ashley conveys, that is something you always hope for, but when it finally comes you better be ready to breathe, sleep and eat your craft. I marked this show in my calandar as soon as I heard about it. I really like a looser style of painting but with some control, Jordan Domont’s works were exactly that. The portraits are layered and translucent giving off a dreamy quality. They seemed lost in thought as if remembering a friend. (more…)
