Supportland Benefit

On a chilly Sunday night in a warehouse converted into a performance space some of the newest and “oldest” bands in Portland donated their time to help Chad Schild. Audio Cinema donated the space and sold everything at cost to help raise $10,000 total! The Caves, Floater and more play for free but that didn’t mean they played any less. (more…)

Madlib And Co.

thumbmadlib.jpg Portland | Dan Hagan

It sucks when the headliner isn’t as good as the openers. I think the difference between an artist and performer is the difference between me going to a show or not. Mablib is a brilliant musican/producer. Not so much a brilliant performer. Percee P is an alright rapper but a great performer. So the break down is this, I buy Madlib’s music, I pay to see Percee P. I guess it’s the trade off for shows that could really suck. A line up with MC’s/DJ’s/Producer who are pushing hip hop and music studio work, may not keep an audience interested. (more…)

The Brotherhood

Finding funky cool ass bars is my specialty. My specialty was in use the other night in Olympia. Guided by instinct I found my way to “the Brotherhood”. Sounds like a secret society. It’s not so secret. Once inside I found the place warm and getting ready for a busy Friday night. Over one beer I noticed that there was a patio for smokers (it was damn cold too). The owners must of gotten some great deal on Asian Indian movie banners because there’s about 5 and one the size of a billboard. (more…)

“leave Problems With Cock Size For Losers”

Tacoma | Steven Kazansky
Only losers have cock size problems. One day as I was sitting around with my buddies, I brought up our usual topic of our tiny dicks. Billy pipes up and complains that his girlfriend has a hard time as usual, but his boyfriend has the same problem he does. After listening for a while, I stood up and told them all “I’m going to leave you losers. That’s all you talk about, losers. I’m not a loser. No. I hate my problem. I’m going to leave my problem with you losers. I’m going to get a big dick! I’m going to find the fastest way to get a dick growth patch”  (more…)

Being an artist in Portland, an artist period is a broad term. People have a lot to say it seems and through Art, expression becomes boundless, possibilities endless and the outcomes unpredictable to say the least. Many make grand things through their minds and capability to create. But, does sticking feathers up your butt makes you a chicken? (more…)

Man Man Live And Direct

thumbmanman.jpg Portland | Ian Anderson
About two years ago Mitch-Mitch, a friend of mine, and I were huddling over my iBook as it spewed out a klezmhyry post-apocalyptic mess of sound. “They’re amazing live,” he said, and it wasn’t that hard to believe. We were listening to Man Man’s second album, Six Demon Bag, and everything about it struck me as relevant; from the flags on the cover art waving in the wind to spell out “man man”, to track titles like “Van Helsing Boombox”, and lyrics as quotable as “high on Noreaga”. Everything about this album and this band seemed to say “Fuck Yeah!” to me. (more…)
