1. Nicer In Portland people are more encouraging and accepting. From musicians who are constantly playing in rotating line ups and projects to artists whose community involves the whole city. Seattle has too much going on to be nice. It’s just more business there.
2. Smoke More Portland’s cannabis in take is reflected in its laid back demeanor. Puffing in PDX is almost as common as the drinkers in Seattle are. Cannabis smoking is seen commonly downtown on the streets.
3. Going Places Functioning public transit and no pain-in-the-ass hills make it ideal for not owning a car while still being on time with dignity. No pain-in-the-ass cables everywhere power buses leading to the awesome experience of having to wait for one to be “reconnected” when they come off the cable. Seattle is only now building a train for transit. Portland is so far ahead of Seattle that it will never catch up. Plus you don’t have to wear a helmet.
4. No Sales Tax Guessing what the total is going to be when you’re buying things sucks. Instead of walking up to a cash register and knowing what the price is you’re expected to pay, you have to wait for some calculations and some predefined extra money you owe to find out what the price is. DUMB.
5. More Soul With all it’s weed and moping Portland has more soul. Its where you can have mud on shoes and not be scorned. Portland has a more frontier kinda attitude of “Hey at least you made it”.
