Ground Kontrol R.i.p. Noiseland Is Here

A Portland institution has been put to rest. Ground Kontrol arcade has become Noiseland today. In a brief and cautious exchange with the bartender, I was told only the briefest of details. He said there are plans to expand and that some changes were coming. The web says “Corporate Kontrol” was necessary.
I remember Ground Kontrol when it was on 12th avenue in a black hole. That was 2000, and part of the reason I moved here. An arcade where you can drink! Perfect. Well, if the new name is any sign, Noiseland will keep GK’s spirit by being named the Simpsons’ Springfield arcade. It just happens to be on the same day that is April fools day. Just a coincidence?
