Tucked in between a boulangerie owned by a misanthropic drunk and a bridal gown shop along Seattle’s north 45th street exists one of my favorite venues for live music in the city. The spot is The Sea Monster Lounge in Wallingford, and its proprietor, one Andrew Nunez. (more…)

Portland /// Hank Stram
The idea behind Various is that anyone can come and feel apart of a club night. That Various people will show up. As the Various night becomes more and more popular you are seeing more and more varieties of people. With the ever amazing H.A.S. sound system the night will be where it’s at in the next couple of months. (more…)

I’ve waited about 10 years to see Wu Tang, the greatest hip hop/rap groups of all time. Given the best date to play possible. Then having the opportunity to document it with photos was the best New Years line up in years. I’m still waiting after the $48 ticket, getting punched in the face and going to the worst organized show of my life. I’ll probably never see Wu Tang. I’ll NEVER go to the fucking Roseland again. When you do something well, you usually gravitate towards your talent. This explains why Conrad Loebl has been throwing the best parties in Portland. His talent is bringing together people to have a great time. Renegade really appreciates the time he took to answer some questions to help find out what’s up with life, future and the business of promoting. (more…)

So, O.J. Simpson is back in the news, once again gracing our eyes with his signature, dumbass, “deer-in-the headlights” look he made so popular over ten years ago when he skewered his wife and her gym partner. This idiot got away with a double homicide and chose to rob sports memorabilia collectors’ at gunpoint in a hotel? O.J., here‘s my question to you: Why are you still here, bubba? You won the judicial lottery, and instead of living in a ghetto town outside of Chiapas, eating Chile Beef Colorado everyday for the rest of your life, you opted to stay in L.A. (more…)

Seattle | Written by Cecil Brown
The Sing Sing night has always been a guaranteed party. Last Friday (12-07-07) at the War Room Clayton Vomero shows why he is the best at bringing talent and banging beats together. Hollywood Holt had the presence and charisma to keep the crowd into it and excited. Followed by Mano from Chicago. This was a party. The place was hyped and hot. Everyone bobbing or bouncing to the music. Going from Spank Rock to Justice to Salt n Pepa it was put together as well as it gets. (more…)

The boob tube, one of life’s great invention. I kid. While riding passenger on Tri-Met the other afternoon a laughful agreement passes through my consciousness, just after reading graffiti proclaiming, ‘I hate tv because it sucks.’ Television voids the mind’s need to do much thinking of it’s own. Creative thinking is key. A prerequisite to living a fun, fulfilling reality. It takes courage yet, will endlessly prove worthy to any and all efforts. Turn off the tv, go outside, do something. Please. Our culture will flourish from these social interactions. (more…)

Finding funky cool ass bars is my specialty. My specialty was in use the other night in Olympia. Guided by instinct I found my way to “the Brotherhood”. Sounds like a secret society. It’s not so secret. Once inside I found the place warm and getting ready for a busy Friday night. Over one beer I noticed that there was a patio for smokers (it was damn cold too). The owners must of gotten some great deal on Asian Indian movie banners because there’s about 5 and one the size of a billboard. (more…)

To think I almost didn’t even go to Branx this Saturday. The biggest night the Rotture/Branx space has seen since it’s inception. The place was packed and partying. An old city bus on third street had a dj on top, upstairs had a beat boxer and live band, the balcony had smoking. The space where the game store that had been there was now a full stage filled with people dancing and where there used to be tables for video gaming now had costumed and intoxicated fun-ness running around. On my way back from Canada’s biggest paper clip conference in Vancouver, when I made my way to the Royal Bocce Bar of Olympia. This huge old warehouse had lots of lights. Not club lights, but warm living room lights and lamps. Comfortable couchs, tables and chairs. I liked it. Bocce on each end of the bar plus it’s cash only. Here’s more info in their own words. Justin Long, Ravi and Mercedes celebrated birthdays on Saturday night amongst a club filled with people getting down. Delivering a good dose of dance/house music to Portland like the torrential rain that night. Relief from a dry spell of good dancing at a club. Also, for the first time, the side room at Pala was open. (more…)

I’ve always kept a pretty open mind about everything, from drugs to sex to rock and roll, my motto is try everything once. I’ve stayed up smoking speed with a meth head from Alaska, after watching him stay up for a week straight (we were neighbors at the time). I listened to his delusional diatribes about government and how he planned to build an invisible airplane that he could then fly into the White House. I’ve done coke off of toilet tops and tits, and ranted and raved for hours about nothing with other people who seemed to agree with everything I said. (more…)

Branx on Saturday night was the place to be. Dark, loud and full of dancing. Coco B’s SNAP! is proving to be the next night to be a fun as fuck at Branx. A sound system that rumbles the floors while keeping it clear. After several dj’s Sulsbury, Freaky Outty, and Colin Jones, Branx blew up when WOAH DANG Inc took over. (more…)

My patience is running out folks, the tank is running on empty and the barrel is dry. I smell mutiny aboard the fleet! The bilge dwellers are about to swarm out like Africanized bees in the face of the fucking public. For the vast majority of people, going out on the town is a twice a week event, full of fresh cash, clean clothes and the smell of perfume samples ripped from old magazines. (more…)

Dear Editor,
I would. like to start this letter off by thanking everyone at Renegade for the opportunity to write for your magazine. I am truly and deeply grateful to contribute fine work to a fine institution such as your selves. The cash advance didn’t hurt either, and I must say, reinforced my life credo of “money talks, and bullshit walks”, so thank you.

Walking across the Burnside bridge at 8:30 pm I strolled into a rare and dangerous scenario. As I made my way over the bridge I noticed this congregation by the edge of the bridge. Then I noticed two men shirtless sitting on the ledge of the bridge. Then I watched them both JUMP INTO THE RIVER!! (more…)

Looks like there is another swanky bar opening up in Portland. It feels like a new restaurant or lounge is opening every month. This one is in the heart of Old Town, next to Magic Gardens. This was once the block a few years ago, where a crack head pulled out his fake eye for a dollar. Where right after work, dealers and junkies just ran the streets. Now things have changed for the better. Even though The Crown Room is new it’s lounge philosophy is rooted in the old school. (more…)

First & foremost, let me tell you that I’m a huge fan of yours. My friend, you always seem to be there when needed. The perfect post-work cocktail a beer with the show, and you’re even around in the holidays hidden inside chocolates as you warm us when we’re stuck in the midst of endless family gatherings. However, lately I’ve been wondering about your intentions. While I want to believe that you have my best interests at heart, I feel that your influence has led to some unwise consequences, briefed below for your review. (more…)
